Prevalence of Autoplaque Phenomenon in Bacterial Communities from Spatially Heterogeneous Environment of an Abandoned Mine

چکیده
The autoplaquephenomenon has been intriguing microbiologists for more than five decades (Berk, 1963; Krylov et al., 2016). The autoplaquephenomenon is characterized by the spontaneous appearance of plaques on the bacterial lawn without exposure to any external phage. Though, autolysis has been thoroughly investigated in Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Berk and Kazanas, 1963; Shaburova et al., 2001) it has also been described in several bacteria genera, such as Bacillus cereus (McCloy, 1958), B. subtilis (Loessner et al., 1997), Brucella abortus (Renoux and Suire, 1963), Fibrobacter succinogenes (Singh et al., 2003), Myxococcus xanthus (Wireman and Dworkin, 1977; Breyen and Dworkin, 1984), Neisseria gonorrhoeae (Campbell et al., 1985), Nodularia spumigena (Jenkins and Hayes, 2006) and Rhizobium trifolii (Barnet and Vincent, 1969).

Degradation of naphthalene by bacterial isolates from the Gol Gohar Mine, Iran
Naphthalene is an ubiquitous pollutant of the environment and the biodegradation of this pollutant has been receiving constant scientific consideration. The aim of this study was to isolate and identify bacteria that could degrade naphthalene from three regions of the Gol Gohar Mine at Sirjan, Iran. In this study, the total naphthalene degrading bacteria were quantified with the most probable n...
متن کاملContamination by trace elements of agricultural soils around Sidi Bou Othmane in abandoned mine tailings in Marrakech, Morocco
This study was carried out for the purpose of investigating the issue of tailings dams as a potential source of contamination by trace elements in soils at the Sidi Bou Othmane mine in the Marrakech Region, Morocco. Soil samples taken from depths of up to 15 cm and within a radius of 50 m from the tailings dams, were analyzed for Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn using atomic absorption spectrometry. Average c...

متن کاملBacterial, Archaeal, and Eukaryotic Diversity across Distinct Microhabitats in an Acid Mine Drainage
Acid mine drainages are characterized by their low pH and the presence of dissolved toxic metallic species. Microorganisms survive in different microhabitats within the ecosystem, namely water, sediments, and biofilms. In this report, we surveyed the microbial diversity within all domains of life in the different microhabitats at Los Rueldos abandoned mercury underground mine (NW Spain), and pr...
متن کاملGold, Silver and Iron in Iron Oxy-hydroxide Precipitate Formed in Process of Acid Mine Drainage
Oxidation of sulfide-containing ores is the main cause of Acid Mine Drainage (AMD), which is an environmental problem associated with both the abandoned and active mines. Iron-bearing sulfide minerals can be oxidized and form mine waters with high sulfate content, low pH, high electrical conductivity, high redox potential, and high concentrations of iron, aluminum, and other heavy metals. In th...
